Board Urged To Remove Tablets From Exam Centres

News Information

With the Lok Sabha scheduled to be held on April 30, the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board officials are finding it tough to handle the political pressure. They are daily getting request from the Member of Parliaments and even Members of Legislative Assembly to remove tablets from the schools in their respective areas. The board had installed about 1,300 tablets in the state, especially in sensitive centers in HSC Science examinations. The tablets would be used as an alternative to the CCTV cameras that were directed to be installed in each exam center to record the board exams on camera. The board officials said that these tablets were recently used in the election in Rajasthan and thereafter the same tablets will be used for the elections in the state. The elections are scheduled to take place in Gujarat on April 30.The MPs and MLAs made representations that since these tablets are placed inside the classroom, they are affecting the moral of the students. With these constant eyes keeping a watch, the students are not able to write their examination. An MP cited an example where a group of students and parents came to his residence asking him to get the tablets removed. The MPs was even forced to call the board officials and make representation to remove the tablets from the class. The officials said that the schools in Asarwa in Ahmedabad refused to install these tablets and in Godhra a school authorities tampered with the tablets. The DEO Godhra has also sent a report to the board about the tampering with the tablets. The tablets are directly connected with the main server in Gandhinagar. Not less than 10 people are deployed to keep a watch on the activities within the class. The Ahmedabad city has 10 schools where these tablets will be installed. A total of 126 classes will be covered.Since Soma Patel was in a meeting his personal secretary Mahipat Singh, when contacted, said, "I received several phone calls from students and parents from the constituency complaining that the students were in depression because of the CCTV cameras. We have informed the higher officials in the district about this."
