Delhi University"S Postgraduate English Students Want 3 Teachers Sacked

News Information

Muslims brought homosexuality to India and taught Indians how to cheat and gamble." This is not the rant of a fringe group activist but the faculty member of Delhi University's English department statement in class, if the students are to be believed. Another teacher, according to these students, told an MA previous class that "she could (be) teach(ing) them everything wrong because that was her first class". After enduring two months of such remarks combined with "extremely dissatisfactory lectures", about 200 students of MA English have signed a written complaint to the head of the department about "the dismal teaching skills" of "three newly appointed teachers for English". They want them replaced. "She often misses classes without giving any prior notification. She conflates topics, lacks clarity and fails to explain topics (including important literary movements) in an intelligible manner," says the letter one of the teachers. She's also accused of not taking term papers for internal assessment. The second teacher's quip about Muslims the students found "condemnable". And a third, the letter says, completed Bertolt Brecht's Life of Galileo, which normally takes several classes, in two lectures.
