Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission Installs Mobile Jammers In Exam Halls

News Information

Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) on Sunday installed mobile jammers, on experimental basis, in examination halls to check cheating. The decision to install jammers was taken by the chairman of HPPSC, K S Tomar, after the arrest of 34 candidates, who were caught cheating during the Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGLE), 2013, (Tier-II) in September last year. The HPPSC has also taken up the matter with the state government, which has given an in-principle approval, sources said.A proposal would be sent shortly to the government for providing adequate funds to purchasemobile jammers for each hall and centre where examinations and screening tests are conducted. HPPSC also plans to purchase mobile jammers before the forthcoming HP Administrative Service (main) Examination.During the CGLE, 2013 (Tier-II), conducted by the State Public Service Commission on behalf ofStaff Selection Commission on September 29 last year, the invigilation staff of Public Service Commission along with the state police, had arrested 34 candidates cheating with the help of mobile phones. They were carrying the cell-phones under their garments.Taking a serious view of it, Tomar had convened a meeting on October 1 last year and decided to install mobile jammers on experimental basis to check their frequency, range and viability. These have been purchased through HP Electronics Development Corporation.
